Thematic Areas

FTA’s interventions are carefully designed to address the systemic issues that hinder Nigeria’s democratic growth and sustainable development. Our work is strategically focused on four interrelated areas,

Our Focus Areas

Anti-Corruption Advocacy

We believe corruption is not just a legal violation but a major threat to national development. FTA partners with key anti-corruption agencies:

  • Strengthen enforcement mechanisms and ensure cases are handled transparently.

  • Promote policy reforms that close loopholes and enhance accountability in governance.

  • Increase public trust in anti-graft institutions through awareness campaigns and citizen education.
By amplifying the fight against corruption, we aim to create an environment where integrity becomes the norm across both public and private sectors.

Transparency in Public InstitutionsTax Planning & Legal Support

Transparency is the foundation of good governance. FTA works to ensure that government processes and resources are open and accessible by:

  • Advocating for budget transparency, procurement integrity, and timely publication of government expenditures.

  • Expanding citizens’ right to information through the Freedom of Information (FOI) Act.

  • Supporting open data platforms that allow the public to track service delivery and government performance.
Through these efforts, we help foster an accountable system where public institutions function effectively, resources are well managed, and citizens see tangible development outcomes.

Civic Engagement & Citizen Empowerment

Democracy thrives when citizens actively participate. FTA invests in building the voice and agency of communities by:

  • Mobilizing youth, women, and grassroots groups to demand accountability from leaders.

  • Creating participatory platforms such as town halls, governance clinics, and digital engagement tools.

  • Equipping citizens with civic education and monitoring skills to track local projects and public budgets.
This empowers ordinary Nigerians to move from passive observers to active stakeholders in shaping policies and holding government accountable.

Institutional Capacity Development

Strong institutions are essential for sustaining reforms. FTA supports public officials, civil society actors, and local governments to:

  • Strengthen their technical and ethical competencies through tailored training and workshops.

  • Provide practical toolkits, monitoring frameworks, and best practices for internal accountability.

  • Enhance inter-agency coordination and partnerships that improve service delivery.
By building the skills and systems needed for effective governance, we ensure that anti-corruption and transparency efforts are not short-term projects, but long-lasting reforms embedded within institutions.
